At Youth-Reach Gulf Coast (YRGC), we are incredibly grateful for our unique relationship with the Alabama Department of Conservation’s Marine Resources Division. Seven years ago, we met enforcement officer Chance Mancuso who was looking for an organization the division could donate confiscated fish to so they would not go to waste. He came out to visit our campus after a community member recommended our ministry. His proposal was gladly received, and from there a long-lasting relationship began.

“When I show up, the kids always want to come out and see the fish and learn about the different types,” Chance explained. “The other officers and I tell the young men about what we do and answer questions from guys who are interested in this profession.”

Chance is a firm believer in the ministry of YRGC. In the seven years that he has been working with the organization, he has seen lives changed and watched kids grow to become great young men. He and other officers have built close relationships with residents and staff members.

“The staff will send me pictures of them cooking up and eating the fish we donated. It’s rewarding to give back to them because they’ve always been great to us. They are literally open 24 hours for fish donations. They won’t turn anything down, even if it’s just one triggerfish. They are grateful for everything and find a way to make the best possible use of the resources donated.”

The Enforcement Section of this department is responsible for ensuring that state laws and regulations are observed as they pertain to fishing and marine life. Game wardens monitor the Gulf to verify that fishermen have appropriate licenses and that what is caught is in season.

The YRGC family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Alabama Department of Conservation’s Marine Resources Division. Their generosity and longstanding support have and continue to make a significant impact on all of us.
